METEOROLOGICAL.
December. The miseries of continued Nor’ Westers have been experienced during the last four days; a dry atmosphere, so long wished for, has come in earnest, and country operations are being carried on with vigor. The uncovering of so much land in the township during the past year, for building allotments and the repairing of the streets, now cause a superabundance of dust which moves in heavy clouds. Yesterday a sudden and unexpected dry gale sprang up from the S.E. which caused the Rangatira to run for shelter under the lee of Young Nick’s Headland. The wind abated about 3 o’clock for which every one was thankful. The weather has been especially unfortunate for the various Rifle Competitors since Saturday last, each squad being exposed to strong fitful gusts of wind, which rendered good shooting hopeless.
