AUCKLAND STEAM PACKET COMPANY (Limited.) Capital : £50,000 in 5,000 Shares of £lO each ; £4 paid up on 3,213 Shares, leaving 1,787 unallotted now held by the Company. Directors: William C. Daldy, (Chairman), John S. M'Farlane, T. Morrin, T. Russell, J. Y. Stevenson, (of Archibald, Clark & Son.) At a meeting of Shareholders of the above Company held on Monday, November 3, it was unanimously resolved tliat the Directors be instructed to offer the unallotted shares to the public at a premium of ten shillings per share, or £4 10s to enable the Directors to purchase two or three steamers suitable for the Coasting and Island trade of this Port. The Directors of the Auckland Steam Packet Company have, with inferior and unsuitable boats, small capital, and bad times at our mines, been successful, and could have previously paid dividends. They have now paid a dividend of 10 per cent, for half year ending October 31,1873, and with every prospect of continuing to do so. Having sold the Comerang and Royal Alfred, the Directors desire to extend the Company’s operations with better and more suitable boats, and invite the public to enable them to carry out this object by subscribing £B,OOO more capital by taking up the unallotted shares. In accordance with the above resolution applications for shares will be received until noon December 31st, at the office of the Company, or through the Company’s agents at Gisborne and Napier. The Directors especially invite the co-operation of the inhabitants of Gisbome'in this undertaking as it is the intention of the Company to put on a steamer of sufficiently light draught to enter the Turanganui River and to run her between Auckland, Gisborne, and Napier, as soon as it is possible ; the steamer to make as many trips as she is able to do in the month, thus keeping up a regular steam communication between the above ports and Auckland. After payment of dividends, and interest on overdraft, and writing off a large sum for depreciation, nett profits in 18 months since the Company was started, are £5,864 6s 6d, or 45'6 per cent, on the paid up capital, and 50’6 per cent, for the same period without including the dividend. There are several aspects of this Company to which the Directors invite attention — 1. It will pay good interest for capital invested as shown above. 2. Good Steam Communication will largely benefit the commerce and trade of the Province. Should a sufficient number of the unallotted shares now offered to the public not be taken up so as to enable the Directors to purchase two steamers suitable for the Coasting and Island trade the deposits will be returned on application.
