The Wellington Evening Post says:—Reference to our advertising columns shows that the N.Z. Shipping Company has lowered the rates of freight on wool to London to five-eigths of a penny per lb. for greasy, and sd. for washed. This is one of the beneficial results of competition.
Gas From Petroleum.—We hear, says the Geelong Advertiser, that an experiment at making gas from petroleum is about to be made in Geelong* As the price of coal gas is still, notwithstanding the reduction, high, the result of the experiment will be looked forward to with some interest, as it is said 700 feet of gas can be made from 15d of petroleum.
