Auckland, November 25. G. M. Read was elected for Takapuna to-day without opposition. A Gazette issued yesterday announces the assumption of office by Mr. Williamson, and his acceptance of the resignation of the late Provincial Executive. Messrs. Dargaville, Philips (Mayor), and Hurst have been elected to the Provincial Council, defeating Mr. Lusk. Mr. Gillies, ex-Superintendent, has commenced business as a barrister.

The Hon. Mr. O’Rorke and Mr. Lundon have been elected to the Council for Onehunga. The South British and National are declining-

In Queen-street, the leasehold property rendered vacant by the late fire was sold to-day at treble the former rentals.

The supply of sheep is limited. Ewes and lambs, 345, the couple ; fat sheep, 2s 8d to 3s for eight pounds; lambs plentiful, 17s to 21s each ; beef, 24s to 28s the 100 lbs. The Provincial Council meets on the 16th, Tauranga.

Wellington, November 26. - Twenty-five shares in the National Bank have been sold at £2 12s 6d per share. Vernon, Eastwood and Wither’s runs, adjoining Blenheim, and containing 35,000 acres freehold, and 1400 acres leasehold land, with 28,000 sheep, were sold to Charles Redwood for £65,100.

The journeymen painters intend to strike for 12s. a day. A number of carpenters have also struck for 12s. The Provincial Council will, probably, be soon called together again to pass a Bill authorising an expenditure of £50,000.

Wanganui. The races are to take place on the 11th and 12th February.

Lyttelton. The ship Punjaub, for London, and several other vessels, are all back again, wind bound.

Reefton, November 26. A vote of confidence was given to Mr. Curtis last night by 53 to 40. Nelson, November 26.

The show of pictures in the fine arts department is said to be unequalled in New Zealand.

The Guardian authoritatively denies the charges of unfair dealing iu allotment of the National shares, preferred by the Auckland newspapers. It states there is no truth whatever in them. No directors r.flicked in shares in Auckland, as alleged.

The Thues states that the Standard Company has been floated, and local directors and agents appointed for the various provinces. It also states as the result of Mr. Reid’s mission that the projected companies at Christchurch and Wellington have been abandoned.

The bakers have resolved to reduce the number of working hours from twelve to eight. Mr. Vogel has telegraphed to the Superintendent that he intends visiting Dunediu next week.
