ROAD HOARD.

Monday, November 3, 1873. Present—Messrs. Johnson, Parsons, King. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following letters were received :— From the Provincial Secretary endorsing amended memorandum of Mr. Whitaker. From Provincial Secretary respecting authentic plan of town Gisborne. From Provincial Secretary enclosing copies of Highways Empowering Act 1872, and Highwav Boards Act 1871. From Mr. Wyllie respecting metal to be obtained from the Whataupoko block and a bridge over the Tarulieru river. From Mr. M‘Kenzie respecting cattle and horses straying on the road, Mr. M'Keuzie to be informed that Mi'. Skeet has instructions to impound off the public roads. From Mr. Sadlier complaining of state of road fronting section No. 3 Ormond suburban. Mr. Johnson had mentioned the matter to the Board and they are of opinion that Mr. Sadlier had his remedy from the contractors previous to the completion of the work. From Mr. Thompson in reference to section No. 170 complaining that the Board by their

outlet drain has thrown the water upon the same, and the Board are taking proceedings to drain that part of the town. From Mr. Helyar in reference to stock straying on the road at Ormond, also in reference to drains on the sides of the main road. The Secretary was instructed to reply thanking him for his suggestions, and that the Board will take the matter into their consideration.

The following tenders were received :— From Messrs. Keating and Brunt for cutting drain on bye road Ormond 13s per chain accepted. ' From Mr. J. Walsh for drains and formation of main road from Espie’s corner to King’s £1 15s per chain, rejected. From Messrs. Kelly & Co., ditto ditto, £lBs 6d per chain, accepted. The Engineer was instructed to call for tenders for the erection of a dog kennel at Ormond. The following accounts were passed : — Messrs. Kelly and Mooney balance of contract Gladstone-road, £64 14s; Messrs. Pritchard, cartage, £9 18s 6d ; contingencies, £22 ; salaries, £2B.
