COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
The following extracts are from Goldsbrough's Monthly Circular, dated Melbourne, October 9th, 1873 ITbol.—A considerable quantity of the new clip has now arrived into store, and buyers and sellers are looking forward to the opening sales, which will commence in about ten days. There have been numerous inquiries, but none of the new wool has as yet been offered, nor is it likely that any of the lots will be sold until the market has been tested by public auction. Competition will, no doubt, be brisk, as the late telegrams from Europe have been of a more satisfactory character, the London October sales having opened at rates equal to those of the previous series. It was expected that the financial disturbances in America would have had a prejudicial effect, but this has evidently not been the ease, as the attendance of both home and foreign buyers appears to be up to the average, and the biddings are well maintained. Under these favorable auspices, this market should open well; and if the growers are reasonably moderate in their estimates of the value of their clips, no doubt a large quantity of wool will change hands. It must be borne in mind that the rates now ruling are exceptionally high, and calculations of value should be made with a due regard to future prospects. The folowing wool ships have cleared for London during the month :—
Against this increase must be placed the decreased shipments from New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, the complete returns of which have not reached us. The total from all the Australian colonies will probably be about 8000 bales in excess of last year. PRICES CURRENT. The following quotations are nominal, as the season has not get commenced.
