The opinion of the Waikato Times in reference to Mr. Dargaville’s election, is thus set forthMr. Dargaville was applied to at Hamilton to subscribe to the race fund. He asked the applicants whether they would take £2 2s then, or £lO 10s after he had been elected Superintendent. It was decided to take the promise of the larger amount. The old proverb of the “ bird in hand,” &c. appears to have escaped the memory of our racing friends in Hamilton. We should have taken the £2 2s. During the discussion on the military estimates, Lord Elcho asked whether the department could not advantageously introduce Australian tinned meats. Sir Henry Storks replied that the ■soldiers refused to eat them.
