CORRESPONDENCE.
[Our columns are open for free discussion; but we do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions of our Correspondents.] TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD. Sib, —Over three months ago a paragraph appeared in the Standard copied from the General Government Gazette, stating that when the Fines ■of anv Company of Militia amounted to Two Pounds (£2 ) they were to be given as prizes to be fired for. No notice was taken on last parade day, and on a friend of mine asking Major Pitt the reason, he informed him that it was in “ a very very new Gazette,” as, however, the Gazette is now nearlv four months old, it doubtless stands a chance of being complied with. Surely it is much better to be taught the practical than the theoretical use of the rifle, or, if ever called out on active service, it might be found that some of the Militia had never fired a rifle in their lives. — I am, Ac., Snap Cap.
