ROAD BOARD.
Monday, 15th Sept. 1873. Present.- Messrs Poynter, Johnson, Parsons, and Hall. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. Hales that his application for permission to erect a gaoiaccross the road between section No. 37 (Township of Ormond) and Mr. Caulton’s property, cannot be granted, as it does not appear that he is possessed of any land in that neighborhood. The following letters were received :—From John Scott, respecting culverts an the Kaitaratahi Road and offering to make the road passable for drays. The Engineer was instructed to have the culverts constructed and to accept tenders for-the same. Letter from Mr.- Root, complaining of the state of the road opposite his residence. It was resolvedk that-the road from the cutting up to Gladstone Road be formed and gravelled, with a foot walk twelve feet wide on the west side side, and formation of the full width of the road. Letter from the Provincial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of copies of accounts for the past year, also receipt of letter reporting names of persons elected as District Board for the current year.
The following tenders were received for faking charge of the Pound :—From Mr T. Uren,“ for £lOO per annum, accounting to the Board for all Fees. Tender from Mr. Dalziel—lf guaranteed for two yean, without premium, he retaining all fees. Mr. Dalziel’s offer was accepted. Tender for cutting drain and formation of Gladstone Road. Messrs Kelly & Mooney, 19s 6d per chain, accepted ; Messrs Dick & Co., £2 2s, rejected; Mr. J. Brown, £1 9s 6d, rejected; Mr. Lauchlan, £1 10s, rejected. Tender for cutting drain on Church road, MenMendlcshaiu. Mr James Brown, 10s. per chain, accepted. Messrs Wylie and J. Uren waited on the Board in reference to a road, to give access to the Tutoko Block. Consideration was postponed till next sitting day, to enable Mr. Hardy to communicate with Bishop Williams. Complaints having been made respecting cattle and horses wandering about the town, it was resolved that Scrgt. Shirley be requested to enforce the provisions of the Impounding Act, and that notice be advertised in the Standard. It was proposed by Mr. Hall and resolved that the drains along the main road be deepened as much as possible, and that the side tables be done away with; the soil from the same to be used for raising the foundation. The Engineer was instructed to call for tenders as soon as possible. The following contracts were passed : —Mr. J. Killcoddy, contract for outlet drain, and clearing side drains ( completed ), £Bl ; H. Smith, for culvert on Ormond Road, £24; J. Brown, for culvert on Middle Road, £lO ; L. Dunn, advance on account of maintenance, £lO ; Salaries, £l9 17s. ; Contingencies, £ll 2s 6d. The Board adjourned to Monday, the 29th instant.
