SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.

PORT OF POVERTY BAY.

High Water.

ARRIVALS. AUGUST. 20—Three Brothers, ketch, from Napier, with full general cargo. Passenger:—W. Armstrong. fil—Lily, launch, from Napier. 22—Dido, schooner, Doughty, from Auckland, with a full cargo of timber aud general merchandize. Passenger:—Mr. Mooney. DEPARTURES. AUGUST. 20 —Atalanta, schooner, for Auckland, via the Coast.

The steam launch Lily which arrived on Thursday night from Napier, will be a timely and valuable acquisition to the trading community of this township. It became absolutely necessary to preserve the shipping business of the port, that some means should be secured on which to depend for the lightering of steamers and vessels not coming into the river, and Messrs. Graham and Co. therefore, with commendable promptitude, have supplied the long-felt want in bringing the Lily on here. She is a screw propeller, drawing about 4 feet when loaded, which light draught, makes her admirably adapted for our bar and river navigation. She is 10 tons register, 40 feet overall, with a beam of 10 feet, and can be worked up to 12 horse power. Her carrying capacity is very good, being able to stow away some 25 bales of dumped wool. The Lily was formerly employed at Napier as lighter and passenger boat; she has had her engines thoroughly overhauled and altered, and is now in a very efficient state. It is intended to employ her at this port in carrying cargo and passengers to and from steamers and vessels; in plying to the Big River and Tologa Bay; towing vessels over the bar, &c. She would be well suited for bringing posts, fire wood, &c., down the river into town. She has been veiy successful in Napier at the same trade as she is going into here; and we wish her new owners every success.
