SCRAPS FOR LADIES.

The latest feminine fashion of wearing the front hair is known as the Skye terrier style. In Paris, the ladies are dressing their hair higher and higher, and ruffs are worn deeper in consequnence. A Milwaukee lady had several hundred dollars’ worth of point lace clipped off her clothing by an adroit thief while she was at church singing “ strip me of the robe of pride ; clothe me in humility.” In addition to the customary tables of births, deaths, and marriages, a Church paper in England has introduced a section beaded “ Engaged,” and accordingly a gentleman and a lady figure in that felicitous list. Some ladies in Savons, New York, tried to break up a billiard room by going there in the evening with their knitting and sewing. It did not work, however, as their presence attracted an additional run of custom. A writer in the Household says that to cure ear-ache she takes a piece of salt pork’ say an inch or more long and half an inch squ ire ; cut down one end to fit the ear, and insert it, taking care to have the piece too large to slip in. Tie a handkerchief to keep it in place, if the child will allow it. She also uses pork for sore throat, croup, and lung colds. Cut slices half an inch thick, dip in warm water, sprinkle on a little pepper, and sew on flannel. She has used pork for ear-ache especialy, and always found it to give instant relief.
