NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.
We have received a long letter from “ Abraham Stott, late A.C.,” but we withhold its insertion for his own sake. The chief of his grievance seems to be that Captain Winter has been informed that his (Stott’s) character “ was not good enough to be a member of the Gisborne Rifle Volunteer Corps,” and he trusts “that the Volunteers, and the public, will see to the matter, and have it rectified, as soon as possible, for th A sake of justice to himself, and the credit of the corps to which he belongs.” If Sergeant Stott had our experience at his elbow, he would know that “ the public,” as such, care not one straw about the matter ; and if his own corps are interested in the “ goodness of his character ” why not bring his grievance before them? Sergeant Stott, as an old campaigner, should be aware that the publication of his letter, in its present shape, would lay him open to a charge ®f the rankest insubordination. There may be solid ground for complaint, and enquiry, for aught we know to the contrary, and were Sergeant Stott not in his present 'position we should be glad to help him to obtain the re dress he seeks. As it is we must decline the honor to which he invites us. We have published the letters of “J ” and “ Nemo,” so as not to be too fastidious, and to indulge our readers as much as possible ; but we must remind our correspondents, that they have not furnished their names in due course. Letters intended for insertion must always be accompanied with the name of the writer, not'for publication, but as a guarantee <of good faith.
