Mr. Saunders reports buyers — Caledonians, £l7 5s ; Tookeys, £8 5s ; Waitema, 6s 6d ; Bismarcks, 30s. Sarah Bell, for stealing a letter containing £l2O, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. When sentence was passed upon her she swooned. Her life is in danger. Cattle are quoted at from 24s to 28s per lOOlbs. Half-bred wethers fetch from 14s to 17s each ; longwools, from 22s to 295. In the horse market there is a demand for draught stock. Mr. Every M‘Lean, the agriculturalist, has been called to the Legislative Council. The Orangemen of Auckland and the Thames contemplate making a grand demonstration on the anniversary of the battle of the Boyne. At Mr. Lusk’s meeting last night, an hour elapsed before the candidate was heard; at the conclusion of the speech a motion was moved that as Mr. Lusk had introduced the education tax he was not fit to be Superintendent; an amendment was moved in favor of Mr. Lusk. The lights were extinguished and the Chairman and others on the platform were hustled and bonnetted. On the gas being relighted, the motion against Mr. Lusk was carried. It was the rowdiest meeting ever held at Auckland. July 17. The Chief Justice has sentenced Job Tyler, for ■arson at the Thames, to six years’ penal servitude. THAMES. The Ohinemuri correspondent of the Thames Advertiser asserts that the natives contemplate another murder. ALEXANDRA. July 10. Purukutu has taken up permanent quarters at Te Kuiti, to the inconvenience of other natives. The natives are positive that there will be no war. Large quantities of grain and other produce are expected from this district this year. The Kingites at Kuiti are making large clearings in the bush preparatory to planting. CAMBRIDGE. July 14. July 15. The Orangemen had a grand dinner last night, at which over 200 were present. July 16. At the Orange dinner last night, 250 persons attended. The Rev. J. Buller, in responding to one of the toasts, said that the battle for freedom and religious liberty will one day have to be fought in New Zealand, as the Roman Catholics were endeavoring, by all means in their power, to obtain increased influence in the colony.
