WOMAN'S LOVE.

A woman’s influence! who can say How deep it runs, how strong; Or how it permeates the soul And carries man along. ’Tis felt from England’s Regal throne, And in the pleasant cot; It fills the heart of man with joy, It cheers our common lot. It lifts the mind to soar above Earth’s common, bitter things; It leads the thoughts in flowery paths, To th’heart it comfort brings. There was one joy vouchsafed to man, When sent from Eden’s bowers, That joyous love, that passion strong, That turns earth’s weeds to flowers. A young girl’s heart, if true and good, Is treasure rich and fair, Happy the man to whom ’tis giv’n To guard that treasure rare. R. G. T.
