SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.
POST OF POVERTY BAY. High Water.
ARRIVALS. JUNE. 25— Effie Meikle, schooner, Hooper, from Mercury Bay, with a cargo of timber for Graham & Co. 27—Opotiki, schooner, Harris, from Napier. DEPARTURES. JUNE. 26— Tawcra, schooner, Kennedy, for Auckland, via the coast, with 8 barrels pork, 2 cases bacon, 20 bundles pig skins, Parnell; 2 bags grass seed, Campbell, 16 hides, 4 casks tallow, 5 casks sperm oil, 6 bags wool, and a quantity of goods for the coast, G. E. Read.
The Luna passed the Bay on Thursday on her way to Auckland. The Comerang left Napier for Auckland last Wednesday. The cutter Mary Eliza was advertized to leave Napier for this port, on Wednesday last. The Rangatira was expected in Napier up to the sailing of the Opotiki on Thursday evening last, and advertized t j come on to this port with despatch. We regret to learn that the schooner Opotiki came on without any cargo from Napier, which seems to be most inexplicable. It is known that goods are expected here from that port; and the facilities that are afforded by our locally owned mosquito craft to fill up the gap caused by steamers which only call when some great “inducement offers” certainly deserve more support than they seem to get. We can understand passengers preferring steamer traffic ; but considering that these schooners do their passages quite as smartly as steamers, and enter the harbour at either end, it makes the want of support somewhat unaccountable. The Opotiki is advertized to make one more trip to Napier, and if “su:"<i,-nt inducement” does not offer she will be put into another trade.
