New Advertisements. TO Boarding-house keepers, PUBLICANS, AND OTHERS. TO LET OR SELL, THE SHAMROCK HOTEL. . That New, Commodious, Substantially-built, Family Hotel and Boarding House, at present in the occupation of the undersigned. The property stands on Town section No. 36; te pleasantly situated at the corner of Childersstreet and Lowe-atreet, Gisborne, and commands an extensive view of the Water and Plains of Poverty Bay. It consists of a main three-story building, containing Commercial, and Dining Rooms, and Private Suites for Families. There are also nine spacious bedrooms, capable of accommodating 20 boarders.

The Out-offices consist of a detached kitchen fitted with a first-class ‘ Economist ’ cooking range ; a compact brick oven, and all necessary culinary arrangements required for a first-class business.

A large well containing rain water, supplied from the main building, te sunk on the promises; substantially built with brick and Roman cement; it holds 1,600 gallons, aud is fitted with a new pump. THIS Company is to be formed for the purpose of obtaining Petroleum and manufacturing kerosine therefrom, in the Poverty Bay District. The land which it te intended shall be prospected for oil, te called or known by the name of the “Pakeke a Whirikoka” Block,and te situated, about 30 miles from Gisborne. No engineering difficulties exist as to the formation of a road or tramway. Messrs. Cooper and Ross have obtained on favorable terms a lease of the above-named Block, from the Crown Grantees, for the term of twenty-one years. Mr. Ross, who hag reported on the probability of striking payable oil, has had some years experience in working Petroleuni springs in Pennsylvania, America.

Mr. Cooper te by trade an oH-refiner. It has for some yean past been well known that Petroleum exists in great quantities on this block of land, so far as is indicated by exudation of crude oil from the soil. The name of the block, “Pakeke,” or the “Whale,” shews that die natives have been long aware of the fact that an oily substance “ hinu ” exudes' from the earth in tins locality. It cannot of course be definitely said that payable petroleum -will be found, yet, taking into consideration the fact that in America the slightest signs of oil vriff induce capitalists to buy up land at enormous cost, and test the
