Sturm s Catalogues.—We are in receipt of a fresh supply of these carefully compiled catalogues of trees, shrubs, seeds &c., from Sturm’s well-known nursery in Hawke’s Bay, and shall be glad to supply them gratis on application. Road Metal.—We understand that the Road Board have instructed their Engineer to prospect for metal to coat the main road with, in terms of the vote of £450 set aside at their last meeting for that purpose. This is a step in the right direction, and we shall be glad to hear that Mr. Skeet has practically solved the hitherto difficult question, as to how our roads are to be maintained in a travellable condition during bad weather. The Hawke's Bay Herald says:—A settler at Poverty Bay writes to us as follows by the last mail.—“ The public mind here is much agitated at present by reason of a fresh impost of sixpence a head, by the Auckland Government, on sheep imported from ether provinces. We will now go m strongly far dismemberment.** Advices have been received from the AgentGeneral to the effect that Mr. Stevenson, the engineer to whom the procurement of the apparatus for the Napier Light was entrusted, writes from Edinburgh, under date February 20, that it was then nearly finished ; thia the lantern had been inspected the day previous, before being packed, and that no time would be lost in transmitting it to Napier.— Hawke’s Bay Harald.
