The Hawke's Bay Herald says:—A new local industry ot an important character has been set on foot at Port Ahuriri, by cur enterprising fellowtownsman Mr. Nasmith—an iron and brass foundry. A six-horse power engine and a self-acting lathe have been procured, and will shortly be infall working order. Within the past three boiler for sheep boiling purposes has been made for Mr. Mitchell, at Meanee. Its dimensions are 6 feet, by 4 feet 6 inches, and it will boil down from 60 to 80 sheep. It appears to be an excellent and substantial piece of workmanship. An order is at present being executed for a six horse-power engine and boiler for jiledriving purposes, to be used in the railway contracts. It is to be completed (under penalties) within six weeks from date, and, -no doubt, it will be completed without difficulty. Mr. Nasmith is ready to turn out wool presses, boiling-down plant of all descriptions, and, indeed, every kind of iron work, at rates quite as reasonable as those at which such work is done in any part of the colony. Casting will be commenced shortly. A vEey large and, it is no exaggeration to say, ■a very magnificent hotel is about to be erected by Messrs. Watt Brothers on sections Nos. 3 and 4 of the Market Reserye, facing Hastings and Emerson streets, and comprising about half an acre, at a cost of £3OOO. The hotel will contain states of apartments for fiuniHm, commercial rooms, two billiard tables, and jn short every convenience that is provided in the best metropolitan hotels in the colonies.
