April 4. Mr. Buckland reports dairy cattle at full rates; fat cattle, in excessive supply, lower values, 18s to 22s 6d per hundred; fat sheep, short supply, better rates, 3pl to 3Jd ; weaned calves, 20s to 32s 6d; dairy cows, £7 15s to £lO 5s ; wheat, 5s to 5s 4d; Canterbury flour, £ll to £l3 ; oats, 3s 3d to 3s 6d.

A New Roman Catholic Movement. —The prospectus is published in the Dublin Freeman's Journal, “ officially,” of the “ Catholic Union of Ireland,” established to defend the Pontiff and Roman Catholic interests, the liberty of the clergy and religious orders. The organization is justified by a number of ' considerations, the “ robbery ” of the Pope, the driving of the monks and Jesuits from •thoir retreats, and the desecration of temples. The Catholic Unions, it is said, must combine to effect a restoration of Church property. The Catholic Union 'of Ireland consists of members and associates of both sexes, and of every profession and rank.’ The ex-officio members are to be the bishops of the Church and Catholic peers and members of Parhament. The council is to be formed of thirty elected members, five being a quorum, and these are to “ watch all legislation affecting Catholic ; interests.” From the New Zealand Herald we le&Tn that the work of boring the artesian well in Customhouse street, to the order of the Harbour Board, is still going on. The workmen have reached the depth of 220-feet, and the water flows very freely. - I It is reported, says the New Zealand Herald, that the rumoured discovery of a goldfield near Wangarei appears to be reHable. The Government have received official correspondence about it, but the details are not known.—Mr. Gillies declines to stand again for the Superinten•dency.
