{FROM THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD.] February 9. Exports for the last month show an increase of four millions. The yield of the collieries shows a marked decrease. Colliery strikes still continue. Coal 50s. The introduction of Chinese labor threatened. Mr. McArthur tabled a motion calling on Government to ascertain the wishes of the Fijian authorities as to an Imperial Protectorate, or annexation to one of the colonies. Mr. Macfie reviewed the question of colonial annexation. Gavan Duffy, and Wilson, of Tasmania, are created Knights Bachelor. A committee of colonists met to consider the propriety of the erection of a colonial annexe to the exhibition of 1873. Mr. Childers presided. February 10. The committee of Thirty rejected the proposal of the Government respecting the creation of a second chamber, and the continuance of executive power during dissolutions. The whole of the proposals in regard to the constitution were adopted. The discussions are regarded as indicating a rupture between Thiers and the Committee, causing considerable uneasiness in Paris. February 12. King Amadeus has definitely abdicated. The Chambers are constituted sovereign Cortes. The abdication has been unanimously accepted, and the Spanish Government proclaimed a Republic upon a division of 256 to 32. The cause of the abdication is said to be the question relating to the maintenance of artillery. Lord Kimberley, in replying to a question by Earl Belmore in the House of Lords, promised to produce papers relating to outrages in the South Seas, and gave a detailed account of the measures adopted, stating that it was intended to further increase the squadron. He also acknowledged desire of colonists to assist the Imperial Government in putting down the nefarious traffic and punishing those engaged. Weather severe. February 13. - It is stated that the differences between England and Russia related to Badakshan and Wakshan, which Russia regarded as enjoying a certain amount of independence. Considering, however, the difficulty of establishing the fact, Russia would not refuse to accept the boundary line laid down by Earl Grenville. Russia relies on England to use her influence to induce the rulers to maintain a peaceful attitude and re* linquish measures o* oppression. .
