ROAD BOARD.

it January 18,1673. The Board met at 11 o’clock. Present—All the members but Mr. King. The minutes of last meeting were read Letters received: From the Superintendent covering copy of Highway Board Amendment Act. From Captain Porter, bringing attention of the Board, to the state of the Wharaurangi creek. Secretary to reply to the effect that when the Punt is finished, the Board will attend to the matter. From the Board of Education covering copy of Education Act last session, and asking for a copy of Ratepayers’ Roll. Secretary to write to the Board to say that the Roll is at the Superintendent’s office, and that a copy can be taken of it by the Board ; but that it does not comprise the whole district, nor all the houses liable under the Education Act. From Mr. Mill complaining that his cows have been impounded. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Mill with full explanation of circumstances connected with the Impounding Act. From Mr. Dalziell complaining about breach of faith by the Board and threatening legal proceedings. Mr. Dalziell to be informed that the Board has taken every precaution, and that he agreed to the subsequent arrangement, which guaranteed him 12 months’ possession from date of commencing duty. The Secretaiy laid a statement of Assets and Liabilities on the table. The following accounts were passed : Skeet, £l6 Ils.; Dunne, £3O; Hume £1155.; Torpie and Walsh, 9s; j Drummond, £8; Hall, sk.' The following Tenders were received and considered : Muhunga bridge, Davis and Bidgood, £l3O, rejected; Muhunga bridge, M. Boland, £B5, accepted. Contract I, T. Sproat, Bs. per chain, rejected ; contract I, M. Donald, 6s. per chain, accepted Contract H, T. Gilmore, 255. per chain, rejected ; contract H, P. Nevin, £123, rejected, i Engineer was instructed to call for fresh tenders for contract H., giving a month’s notice. Also for erecting wharf at Gisborne, to be in by the 28th January. The Secretary placed. the resignation of his office in the hands of the Chairman, who gave instructions to call for applications for a successor to Mr. Webb for Wednesday the 29th instant. The Board adjourned to Wednesday the 29th instant.
