The Tawera arrived safe in Auckland on the 14th after a stormy passage of 10 days, experiencing nothing but a succession of gales of wind since leaving Poverty Bay. Captain Kennedy made several attempts to land cargo on the coast but could not succeed. Tire weather banking up from the East ward, stood out well to sea and rounded the Cape on the third day out. At 8 p.m. hove to with hard gale blowing from E.N.E. at 12 midnight wind increased to a hurricane, stood in for the land and made Cape Runaway at 7 pm. next day. Carried away fore gaff ; shipped heavy seas which swept the deck cargo overboard. On weather clearing bore up for Opotiki next day. Bar. 28' with appearance of dirty weather from W. run for Hick's Bay, blowing hard. Left again in moderate weather and arrived as above. All Henri Potai’e flour, biscuits Ac., were thrown overboard during the gale. The Tawera will require a thorough overhaul ; uow stanchions and bulwarks, and recaulking all over. She proceeded at once to discharge her wool into the Queen Bee. The Clematis sails to day for Auckland. The Cynthia got on the bar proceeding seaward yesterday.
