ROAD BOARD.

u December 7,1872. The Board met at 11 o’clock. Present —All the members. The minutes of last meeting were read. Sergeant Shirley attended the Board to ascertain its views as to the duty of the police to enforce the impounding of cattle &c, under the Act. The Board decided to authorize Sergeant Shirley and the Police Force to carry outrihe provisions of the Impounding Act. The following accounts were passed J. Drummond’s salary £B, J. Brown £l2, on account contract F Cuff 21s. for his opinion as to validity of bonds in use by the Board. The Board adjourned to Saturday 21st inst. December 21. Letters :—The following letters were received and read :— From Mr. Lusk, Provincial Accountant informing that £3O had been placed to credit of the Board at the Bank of New Zealand on account of ferry subsidies. From Dr. Nesbitt informing that the Geneml Government would undertake expenses of translating and printing such portions of Acts as are useful to the Natives. From Captain Bead requesting road be laid off from King’-s saw mill to Brown’s point. The Board, after due consideration, decided to lav off a road direct from the mill bush so as to touch on Mr. King’s paddock to the best landing place at Brown’s point. Engineer instructed From the Provincial Secretary relative to the tresspass and impounding of pigs, also one covering a Gazette notifying the appointment of George Young and A. Park as Ferrymen. From V. M. Eiffe asking an extension of time for completion of contract E. Permission given to loth February, subject to conditions of contract being strictly enforced if not completed by that time. Mr. Drummond brought the attention of the Board to the bad state of the ferry wharf at Gisborne. Engineer instructed to report. The following replies were received and read relative to laying off of road through Makauri Block. Assenting— Dissenting— A. F. Hardy Pomare G. E. Bead Ema Katipa J. Wyllie Wi Peri and 3 others Mrs. Wyllie Biperata Kateraina Mereana Paraone Wi Paraone The following accounts were passed:—J. Brown £42 3s. 6d. V. M. Eiffe £2O, R. M. Skeet £25, T. Gilmore £45, J. Drummond £4, J. Dent £1 10s. 2d. The Board adjourned to Saturday next.
