Richardson. Starter ; Capt. Geo. Winter. Clerk of the Course : Mr. G. Buruand. Ist Day, 22nd January. 1. MAIDEN PLATE of sovs., entrance* added, one mile and a half weight for age open to all maiden horses which have been in the district not less than six months previous to the day of the race. 2. TURANGA STAKES of sovs., entrances added, 3 miles, aged list. 5 4 and 3 yrs. in same reduction as Auckland weights for age. 3. SCURRY STAKES of sovs., entrances added, one mile heats, weights for age. 4. Hack RACE of sovs., entrances added; 10-. post entrance, one mile, cateh weights ; for horses which have not been entered in other than hack races, and which have not been sweated in clothing.
2nd. Day, 23rd. January. 1. HURDLE RACE of sovs., entrance* added, two miles over five flights of fencing sft. 9in. high, weights for age. 2. PONY RACE of —•— sovs., entrances added, for ponies 14 hands and under 9st. top weight, allo warn eof 71bs per inch; mile heats. 3. LADIES PURSE of sovs., entrances added, tw r o miles, weight forage ; penalty of 71bs. on the winner of any of the previous races. 4. CONSOLATION HANDICAP of —- sovs., entrances added, It miles for all the beaten horses of the meeting, to be handicapped by the Stewards or whom they may appoint. 5. HACK RACE of sovs., entrances added, half mile he ats, ca l ch weights. Second horses to save stakes, except in Hack Races. No person shall be allowed to enter a horse in other than the Hack Races, unless he is a subscriber to the Race Fund of at least Two Guineas ; and for the Pony Race he must be a subscriber of at least One Guinea. All Jockies to ride in the Colors as described to the Stewards by the enterers of their horses, subject to a fine of One Pound. All Entries enclosing fee, 15 per cent, on value of stakes, description of horse, colors of rider to be made in writing th the Hon. Secretary net later than 7 p.m. on the Saturday previous to Races, at the Albion Hotel. The winner of any match run on the Course to pay Ten Shillings to the Stewards. Money to be paid, previons to starling. The Auckland Jockey Olnb Rules will in all other matters be strictly adhered to. M. HALL, Hon. See. and Treasurer.
GISBORNE LIBRARY. THE usual Quarterly MEETING will be held in the Library Room, on Monday evening next, at 8 o’clock. WHEREAS it is deemed expedient, for the purposes of public accommodation, that a permanent Roadway should be made from Waerenga-a-hika to Ripongaere Crossing; and whereas it is necessary that the said Roadway should be taken through a portion of theMakauri Block ; and whereas Part VII. of the “ Highway Boards Empowering Act, 1871,” requires that a notice of forty clear days shall be given of such work being about to be undertaken, —this is to NOTIFY to all and sundry the owners, or reputed Owners, Lessees, Occupiers, and Agents <f and for any portions of the said Makauri Block through which the said Roadwav is proposed to be taken, that a .SPECIFICATION and PLAN of the Road, together with the names of those affected by it, have been deposited, and will be open for their inspection, on and after Monday,, the 11th dav of November, at the Office of the Road Board, Gisborne. And it is further NOTIFIED that all persons who may have any objection to make to the said line of Road, must set forth the same in writing, addressed to the Chairman of the Board before the expiration of the said forty days from the 11th of November.
