PARLIAMENTARY.
We clip the following from Southern papers to hand per cutter Dawn : — The Legislative Council has rejected the Deceased Wife’s Sister's Marriage Bill, by 23 to 9.
In reply to a question put by Mr. Kelly. Mr. Ormond said that it was the intention of the Government to locate some of the immigrants arriving at Auckland during the next twelve months in Bay of Plenty district. Vogel intimated that Woodward would be appointed Public Trustee, his present office not being filled up, and Batkin becoming Secretary of the Treasury. Mr. Stafford declared that owing to the action of the Government and the policy of the House, he, with great regret, had made up his mind to wind up his private affairs and leave the colony. Mr. O'Rorke has been sworn in as Minister of I>ands and Immigration. Mr. Vogel says that Mr. Bathgate’s appointment in the Stamp Department will save the colony £5OO a year. New Zealand Gazette. —Mokena Kohere of Waiapu, and Wiremu Taku Ngatata of Waikanae, have been summoned in her Majesty’s name, by his Excellency the Governor, to the Legislative Council. The Provinces’ Bill has passed the House, Road Board grants being limited to the end of the present financial year. In the House Mr. Vogel announced that Mr. O’Rorke had joined the Ministry, and that the election of a Chairman of Committees would take place before the session closed. Mr. Reynolds has joined the Ministry as Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Bathgate takes, the Commissionership of Stamps, and a new law office has been created, but it is not yet settled who is to be the holder.
