CORRESPONDENCE.
to the editor of the standard. Sir,—l have learnt since Mr. Bousfield called on me the other day, that his object was to know if I intended to convey any imputation on his private character by denying the asserted connection between himself and me, in my letter to the Standard last week. I can have no hesitation in saying that I did not. My disavowal of being linked with that gentleman in business, rested on public grounds entirely; and my reference to the cause why he has no longer any influence in public affairs, means simply that his opinions are not in accord with the progress of the day, which fact is too well-known to require repetition. If Mr. Bousfield feels hurt at what in his excitement he thinks bears a covert insinuation, I trust he will accept this public explanation to the contrary. Yours, H. E. Webb.
