ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, September 14. The usual meeting of the Road Board took place to day. Present.—The Chairman and all the members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Letters were received, (and read) from Archdeacon Williams, Mr. Strong and others, relative to draining and reparing roads leading to their, properties in Gisborne. The Engineer was instructed to report on same; also on necessary improvements in Derby street. Mr. Hird addressed the Board, requesting that a culvert may be erected over the drain opposite his house. The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. Hird that the Board cannot undertake the work, but that no objection will he made to its being done by himself. The Engineer laid- on the table a letter he had received from Captain Richardson, in command of the Armed Constabulary at Ormond, requiring levels of road from Gisborne to Ormond.

A letter was received from Mr. Bold, General Government Engineer relative to “ the final adoption, and proclamation “ of the various road lines laid off from “ tiinq to time by the several Colonial Government Surveyors at Poverty Bay ”

Mr. Langford addressed a letter to the Board for permission to remove gravel to his premises from some authorized place. Also urging the -propriety of the Board erecting a public urinal. I'he Engineer was instructed to give permission in the former case ; and the Chairman undertook to see Captain Read on the subject of the latter. The Engineer informed the Board that Mr. Eiffe’s tender for repairs in Grey Street, to the amount of £33 had been accepted. ] falford and Newby’s tendbr for cutting drain in Bright Street for £ll 10h. was rejected. Mr. Johnson applied, on behalf of Mr. McKenzie, for a diversion of road line from sections 13 and 12 to sections 11 and 12 at Ormond. The Board decided to defer the matter until Mr. Helyar’s consent to the deviation be made known. The Board discussed and passed a scale of Eorage fees for the Pound. The Engineer was instructed to call for tenders tor clearing Gladstone road, and to remove culvert from French Bob’s to junction of Mill Bush road to to main road. The following accounts 'were passed Mr. Sadlier £25 ; T. Gilmore £l5 ; M. Boland £3O; W. Walsh £32 45.; Taylor and Brown £2 ; J. Hume £1 155.; C. H. Webb 165.; IT. B. Reed £1 15s. The Board adjourned to September 28.
