TAURANGA Everything is quiet here. A monster meeting is to be held on Monday next, 'at Maketu. It is expected there -will ibe upwards of 500 natives present. The object of the meeting is to petition the Government to reinstate Air. M‘Lean. The natives evince considerable feeling on the subject. Many old European residents will be> present to urge the natives to be firm.! Monday,Octobeb 7.
An important meeting has been held at Rangiwaea, relative to the proposed road to Cambridge, which lasted two 1 days, The road is to be commenced at once. This important road goes through well-known goldfields. Great credit is due to Captain Turner, district surveyor for his success in overcoming the prejudices in the minds of the llau-Haus along the line.—“ 11. B. Herald.”
QISBO BN E SCHOOL, Funds are urgently needed for thepurpose of lining the School-room, of fencing the school reserve, and of erecting adwellingfor the school-master. It is estimated that these works will cost at least £3OO. The Board of Education has expressed a willingness to assist local efforts ; but a statement of the amount raised in the district, toward the proposed object, must accompany the application. The committee, therefore, make this appeal to the inhabitants of the district, to make a strenuous and united effort, to raise a good portion at least of the sum required, in order that an application for assistance may be made to the Board, as soon as possible. .
