On referringjjto the accounts for the Waitotara watering trough, Cr Lupton explained fully the items of expeuditure, and in the course of his remarks stated that the trough was of about 2 0 gallons capacity, and the feed pipes supplied about 800 gallons per day. The next business was the appointment of members of the Charitable Aid Board, and Crs Hunter, Lupton, Paterson, and liiddel wore elected. The dog tax for the current year was fixed, by resolution, at ten shillings each dog, with a reduction of half the fee if paid before the 31st March next. Council then adjounrned for lunch. On resuming, Mr Butler was appointed dog tax collector, on same terms ns last year, conditionally on his finding the requisite security. After a short discussion it was decided to hold the next ordinary meeting of the Council on the first Thursday in January. It was resolved on tho motion of Cr Paterson “ That tenders be called for the supply of dog collars and badges for 1888, tenders to be opened and accepted, by a committee consisting of the Chairman, and Crs Death, and Hunter, on the 6th December next. Or Lupton reported that the county road through Wavorley township was being destroyed by storm water. Cr Symos moved, and Cr Hunter seconded, “That Crs Lupton, Nicholson, and the mover, wait on tho Wavoiiey Town Board, re tho main road, and report at the next meeting of the Council.” Cr Nicholson thou brought forward the question of payment of Councillors, tne distance to his house had been wrongly estimated having been calculated us two miles further away than it really was. This opened up some considerable discussion on the subject of payment to Councillors, When Cr Jliddel gave notice that he should move at the next meeting of the Council, “ That the resolution fixing the allowance to Councillors he reoinded, and that in future they be allowed one shilling a mill© one way. Cr Hunter then brought forward the question of the through train not stopping at Kakaramea staiion, and asked the assistance of the Council in having tho injustice removed. He had heard that a petition had been sent to the Goverihnent on tho subject but no notice whatever had been taken of it, and he, therefore, asked tho Council to assist him in obtaining an alteration. He need not say more to prove the absurdity of the present arrangement then that the train stopped at Manutahi, and also at Mokoia, whi ro there was no attempt at a town at aH. The Chairman quite concurred with the opinion expressed by Or Hunter, and would, therefore, move “ That the attention of the Government be drawn to the fact of the mail train passing the Kakaramea station without sto - ping io take up, or put down, passengers, thus inflicting a great hardship on settlers in the township, and district. This was seconded by t’r Nicholson and earned unanimously. The clerk was instructed to send a copy of the resolution to tho Hon. Major Atkinson, member for Egmont This being all the business tho Council rose.
