Tenders were to-day invited for the loan of £1,000,000 sterling for the colony of New Zealand. The rate of interest is 4 per cent., and the minimum is fixed at £9B 10s. News has been received that the British India Steam Navigation Company’s steamship, Duke of Westminster, 2427 tons, from Brisbane (Nov 6) ran ashore at the Isle of Wight, and is in a critical position. A note has been addressed by the Egyptian Government to the English Fu.dign Minister in which the demand is for England’s assistance in the Soudan. The note states that unless this be accorded, the Egyptian Government will be compelled to relinquish to Turkey the eastern poition of the Soudan, and to concentrate its troops in Egypt proper, and thus be able to dispense with the British army of occupation. NEW YORK, Jan 3. Mr Redmond, M.P. for New Ross, who is now in San Francisco, is engaged in furthering the objects of the Irish National League.
