The following is an extract from a letter received in Christchurch from , the Old Country “ The mutton arrived last Thursday, October 25, and was received in perfectly good condition. We gave away some to friends, and a little to our menservants for their families to taste, and all joined in saying better mutton was never tasted. I think I never ate such niceflavoured mutton, nor more juicy. It really has been a wonder to us how it can have come so perfectly such a distance, and not seem to be in any way the worse for the freezing process. —— was dining here one night when we had it. His verdict was that it was as good as venison ; mine is that it is better.” i
