TESTING A RAZOR.

A man was baying a razor from a Wellington hairdresser lately, and tried a new way of testing the blade,. It was a razor of high temper.and high pric«# The man pressed the keonthin’eiA with his thumbnail,. snipping the edge* off all along, and then condemned the blade as a fraud. The barber, Mr Aldons, said the man had spoilt 4he - blade, and must pay 7s fid for ' than asked for a stone: to ! sharpen it with, and having got one, be pressed it against the blade, snipping out a largo lump. He insisted that ho had applied a fair test to a fraudulent article, but offered to pay 2s fid ns its full value. Mr Aldotis handed him over to the police, and when he appeared in Court charged with wilful damage, he again took the razor between his finger and thumb and snapped a large niece off the edge. He hoped this would satisfy the Court that the razor wag a bad article at the high price o f 7s fid, and was not willing to. pay for it, or he would pay the expense of an expert to give evidence. Mr Aldons and his assistant both deposed that the razor was a good German article of delicate temper, with a very thin edge, the selling price being 7s fid. The Magistrates said the purchaser was entitled to make sonic trsfc of the razor, and the damage was evidently not wilful. They ordered the 1 3 defendant, Richard Rule, to ‘pay 7s fid as the value. He paid the money, bnt refused to take the broken razor, which he again said was an imposture.
