MB COWEUN'S REPORTS. At the sale of Mr Martyn’s stock and effects, held on the farm near Manaia on Monday last, there was a fair attendance of buyers, most of the settlers from tho neighbourhood being present. The furniture and sundries sola well. Pure-bred game fowls were sold in lots of 7 and 10, and fetched £2 7s 6d and £2 16s 6d respectively. A farm dray sold for £8 6s, waggon £l3 10s,. and expresswaggonette £2l. The buggy horses realised £2l 5s for the pair. The steeplechaser, New Year, was knocked down to Mr Scott for £SO, and the trotter, Blackthorn, was bought in at tho reserve of £3O. A few milch cows and young stock sold at full values. The reserve price of £3O was offered for Blackthorn after the sale, but Mr Martyn declined to let him go at the money. At my Lincoln-slreet sale yards on the . 2nd inst., 97 head of cattle and some horses and machinery made up the entries, Tho attendance was good, taking the Im’idays into consideration, and fair prices were obtained. The fact of hay being about, doubtless kept some buyers away. A few lots sold well under the hammer, and a fair business was done privately after the sale. The machinery also was sold in favour of buyers. I quote 2-year-old steers, £3 12s ; heifers, £2 5s mixed yearlings, 29s 6d ; horses of inferior quality at usual late quotation.
