On the evening of Boxing day a fatal accident occurred on one of the Dunedin trams. A lad about twelve years named G. Rutherford, who was one of a school picnic party returning from the suburbs, by some means fell from the top of a two-dcckcd tram and the wheel passing over him he was killed. The cutter Margaret Scully, owned and captained by Captain Hogarth, while discharging cargo at Ohau Bay, Terawhiti, was driven on the rocks and became a total wreck. The crew were saved. There was no insurance. Captain Hogarth estimates his loss at £3OO. An Auckland telegram states that James Norres died suddenly at the reclamation works at the Calliope Point while drilling a hole for blasting on Thursday. Mr J. W, Robinson, architect, of Dunedin, intends bringing a libel action against the Dunedin Star for alleged improper comment on Ids' architectural drawings now being exhibited at the Christchurch Industrial Exhibition. Damages are laid at £IOOO.
