DEATH OF A ROMAN CATHOLIC PRELATE-
Scotch papers report the death of the chief Roman Catholic prelate in Scotland, under circumstances that show that be tnnist have followed the example of the Apostolic Church in hia regard of worldly means. In him the practice and the profession of self-denial must have been consistent, and since St. Panl wrote that those who preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel, perhaps no one could hove more truly said “ But I have used none of these things,” than the late Rev John Strain, D.D., Roman Catholic Archbishop of Edinburgh and St Andrew’s, who died intestate in July last. His sister, Margaret Strain, or Turner, residing at Lovetta House, Davidson’s Mains, was appointed by the Court his executrix, and the inventory of the personal estate of the deceased has been returned, amounting to £2ll 16s 10d, from which have to be deducted debts and funeral expenses amounting to £ll3 ss, leaving £9B 11s lOd to the sister, subject to probate duty. It may be interesting to give the details of the modest estate of so high a church dignitary :—l. Cash in the house, 2s lOd. 2.
