Under Mr Leileh’s instruction Her Majesty attained a great proficiency in painting On the occasion of one of Ids visits, Mr Lcitch saw a drawing of a subject behind Buckingham Palace, which Her Majesty had done entirely hy hersi'lf, and which Mr Lcitch described ns “ really admirably well done.” He likid it so much that he obtained leave lo take it away in order to have it properly mounted. It was lying in his stndio for this purpose, when Stanfield colled, and, observing the drawing, be asked by whom it was painted. Mr Leitch said it was by a pupil of his. “ Oh, nonsense,” Stanfield said. “ Yes,” said Mr Leitch, “ nnd it is by a lady.” Stanfield looked at it again, and said ‘‘ Well, she paints too well for an amateur. She will be soon entering the ranks as a professional artist.”
