A case of base ingratitude is recorded by a Southland contemporary. A man was incarcerated at Gore for being drunk and disorderly. He bad no money but was regarded as a decent fellow, and a local publican therefore bailed him out and subsequently paid his fine. After being sot at liberty he again got drunk, and rewarded his benefactor by stealing some money and wearing apparel from a bedroom in the hotel. lie met with his deserts in the shape of a mouth’s imprisonment with hard labour in Invercargill gaol.
