From To-day’s Despatches.
Captain Edwin telegraphs that warnings for southerly gales and cold weather have bjen sent to all stations. The barque Fusilier has arrived nt Wellington from New York. Her crew were dried up with scurvy, and nt one time only the captain, two officers and a boy were available to work the ship. Leslie’s cabinetmaker’s shop was burned nt Te Arolia to-day. Insurance: £75 in National, £75 in New Zealand, The incoming mail left San Francisco for Auckland on Nov 27, four days late. Government have received word from Mr Bryce that the chiefs belonging to the Ngatimanaiapoto are willing to bring their lands under the Native Lands Court.
The dead body of a man was found in the Waimakariri river on Saturday. A letter addressed to Mrs Violet Sinclair Jones, Post-office, Wellington, was found in his pocket.
