It is announced that a convention has been-concluded-between De Lesseps and a syndicate of British ship owners. The convention makrs the following provisions:—Seven additional directors, all of whom shall he Englishmen will be appointed to the board of directors of the Canal Company ; consulting committee to be appointed to act in London with the English directors; the surtax at present levied to bo abolished from January next, and the pilotage tines in July, 1884; transit dues to be reduced to fifty centimes per ton, from January, 1885, and further reductions will thereafter bo made in proportion to the profits realised by the company. A competent committee composed of one half Englishmen, will determine whether the present panal should bo enlarged or a second one be constructed.

The Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company’s steamship Tasman, 721 tons, struck a rock near 1 Gape Pillar, on the coast of this colony, yesterday, and sank shortly afterwards in deep water. The passengers and crew were saved in boats.

A sculling race took place on Saturday afternoon on the Parramatta River between Trickett and Rnsh for £2OO a side. Trickett won easily by several jengths.
