A STRANGE "FROLIC."
Tho Frolic, . com posile gun-vessel, ; Commander’ Moore, which arrived rit : Spilhead recently from " Shcerncss, on her way to thii'Cbpo »».d the West Const; of Africa, has been docked at Polls-, mouth lo have certain defects rectified.; The Frolic ssTa double screw ship, and it; appears that when the 1 two engines are| working «i the same number of revolutions she lias a, tendency to turn rpnnd. The cause of thisdeviation from a straight course seems to have baffled the authorities at Sheerness. She was launched at Chatham in 1872, and has’ served previous commissions. • An examination of the vessel hy the Engineer Officers at Portsmouth has brought to light no defects in her machinery to account for her not being able to keep upon a straight course with equal, revolutions of her propellers. Her screws were found to be of the same pitch,.and the blades uninjured. The Constructor’s Department is now subjecting her hull to examination to ascertain the cause of her eccentricity. The defect is serious, as it requires one set of engines to develop about 100 horses more than than the other to keep her in a straight line.
