It is only about twenty years since Japan came out from her seclusion, at the invitation of Commodore Perry, and only fifteen years since she began to look into the manufactures of other countries, but in that time she has made phenomenal progress, and it will not be long before she will rank among the first manufacture ing nations of the world.
