THIRTY-EIGHT WOMEN PERISH IN A SYNAGOGUE IN RUSSIA^ London, October 15. —A shocking accident is reported from’ Bodoiia, one of the Russian provinces. In the town of Cracow during service in the synagogue on Saturday, some person cried out that the edifice was on fire. A panic immediately ensued. Men, women, and children arose and attempted to gain the doors. The strong trampled on the weak, and for the period of a minute the situation was appalling. 38 women were either trampled to death or suffocated, and nearly 50 were seriously injured. Five aged men and at least a dozen children were taken out dead. The number wounded, while not exactly stated, is said to be largo. Nearly 20C0 persons were in the synagogue when the alarm was sounded. Many of the women in the galleries leaped down to the main floor, and were so bruised and stunned that they could not extricate themselves from the panic-stricken throng. It was not until late in the afternoon that the wounded were cared for. An official investigation of the disaster has been ordered.

IN the District Court of Taranaki, holden nt Pntca.—ln the matter of “ The Debtors and Creditors Act, 1876,” and the Acts amending the some, and in the matter of Felix O’Sullivan McCarthy, an arranging debtor. —Notice is hereby given that by deed and filed in the office of the District Court, at Patea, on the 21st day of November, 1883, and made between Felix O’Sullivan McCarthy, of Patea, in the Provincial District of Taranaki, hotelkeeper, of the first part, George Harold Norman, of Patea, bank manager, Samuel Taplin, of Patea, merchant, and Horace Elliott Deane, of Patea, cordial manufacturer, of the second part, and all the creditors of the said Felix O’Sullivan McCarthy of the third part; the said Felix O’Sullivan McCarthy did convey, assure and assign all his real nnd personal property whatsoever unto the said George Harold Norman, Samuel Taplin, and Horace Elliott Deane, upon the trusts in the said deed mentioned, and notice is hereby further given that a meeting of the Creditors of the said Felix O’Sullivan McCarthy will be held at the Court-house, Paten, on the 12th day of December, 1883, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, for the purpose of assenting to the said deed.
