PARIS, Nov 18.
In the course of an interview which was granted to-day by the Marquis Tseng to a newspaper correspondent, the latter elicited from the Chinese Ambassador a statement to the effect that the attack npon Bacniuh by the French troops in Tonqnin would be considered by the Chinese Government as a casus belli.
BELGRADE, Nov 18.
A large number of the prisoners captured by the troops during the recent rising at Sorern'areka and Kruchevatz are now being tried for participation in the revolutionary . movement. Judgments which have been passed npon those who have been found guilty are remarkable for their rigorous severity, LONDON, Nov 18.
An explosion of fire damp at the Monkfield colliery, Accrington, Lancashire, resulted in the death of sixty miners.
The correspondent of the Standard had an interview with M. In the course of a despatch to the Imperial Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Major Sir Evelyn Baring, the British Diplomatic Agent and ConsulGeneral in Egypt states that a force of three thousand infantry and six guns will be sufficient as a garrison for Alexandria and that the Egyptian Government have intimated their readiness to be answerable for the maintenance of order in the country at large, the organisation of the Native Army having now been completed by Sir Evelyn Wood, Commander in Chief. ALEXANDRIA, Nov 19.
A report to hand last week that a detachment of Egyptian troops had bnH*. attacked and routed near Sonakim, a port in the Red Sea, is now fully confirmed. The troops numbered 500, and were proceeding to reinforce the army in the Soudan, when they were attacked by the rebel Hillmen. Mr Moncreiff, the British Consul at Souakim, who was with the detachment, was killed. Only fourteen men escaped, and they made their way to Sonakim, which was subsequently attacked by the
rebels, who were, however, repulsed by the Egyptian garrison. Latest reports state that another attack on Sounkim is imminent, and that the population is flying from the place, fearing that it will fall into the hands of the rebels. (Received Nov 21, 11.20 a.tn.) Nov 20. News has reached here from the Soudan which has given currency to a report that the Egyptian forces under Hicks Pasha, operating against the the followers of El Mahdi, false prophet, arc short of provisions and surrounded by the enemy. The position of the Egyptian troops is said to be critical. BELGRADE, Nov 20.
Three loaders in the recent rebellion in this country, who were condemned to death have been shot.
