GOVERNMENT AND WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD.
[TER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, This day. Government have replied to the remonstrance of the Wellington Harbour Board a bon I Government resuming possession of their reclaimed endowment for purposes of a printing office site. The Premieir: soys “ Government are hot able, ns the law how stands, to give to the Board any compensation for the land in question, nor to nssnre them that an equivalent whether in land or money shall be given, but they believe as a matter of policy an endowment once given to a public body such as a Harbour Board should not be taken away without reasonable compensation. Government will, therefore, recommend Parliament next session to amend the law on the subject so to enable this or any similar case to #be dealt with on its merits.” S '
