PREPARATION OF WOOLS FOR EXPORT.
The following circular, .which has been published in Wellington by request of the German Consul there, 1 may be of interest to farmers in Ibis district ** The Minister for Commerce in Germany, at the request of the United Chambers of Commerce, has issued a circular to the consuls of the empire, directing them to bring the following circumstances under the the notice of those 1 concerned. The wool manufacturers in France, Belgium, and Germany object to the use of tu.te woolpacks and to the practice of trying up single fleeces with the into cords, for the following reasons -4. The wool-press forces the fine end of. the lute into the fleeces, mixing the wool and tnte fibre 2. The tnte cannot be separated from the wool without trouble and expense, and the objectionable foreign matter can never be completely removed. 3. In the process of colouring, wool and tnte are differently Effected, so that uniformity of colour, which should always be aimed at, is rendered an impossibility. The remedies suggested are as follows: —1. T.hat in ordering tute woolpacks it should be stipulated that the material of which packs are composed should be singed over a gas fire, which would not materially enhance the cost and would free the packs from the fine hairs, thereby increasing the ralue of the wool. 2, That each fleece should be rolled up and the use of cord discontinued.
