VOLUNTEER PRIZE FIRING.

The final competition for Messrs Christie and 'Haywood's medals took place yesterday morning. The first firing took platoon the 24th May, 1881, when 19 competitors appeared, but they gradually dwindled down to 5 the number that fired yesterday morning. The following is the result of the shoot-

Subjoined are the aggregate scores : Sergeant Nntsford ... ... 305 Volunteer Carey ... ... 303 Volunteer W. Kitching ... 289 Lieutenant J. Kitching ... 272 Colour-Sergeant Kells ... 225 Sergeant Nntsford therefore is the winner of Mr Christie’s modal, a handsome gold star, surmounted by a crown. On the face are the letters P.R.V. and two crossed rifles in silver. On the reverse side is the inscription—“ Presented by H. F. Christie, Esq., to the Patea Rifles for the-highest aggregate score, 1882 and 3;” Mr Haywood’s medal will fall to Volunteer Carey. It is in the form of a Maltese Cross, and like the other one bearing on the face, which is elegantly chased, crossed rifles. Both medals are on view at Mr Taplin's warehouse. COMPANY’S TROPHIES. The monthly competition for the Company’s trophies by the first class took place yesterday morning, and resulted as follows:^—
