The promoters of racing sweeps under the pseudonym of “Loco Spero,” whose character was recently- exposed by the Herald, levanted with the money which had been subscribed by the public.to various sweeps. The amount collected by the absconders prior to their defalcation is £II,OOO. The Governor of Fiji, replying to the communication of the Victorian Government, expresses sympathy with tha object of the Annexation Conference,; but doubts whether Fiji should be represented at the Convention.
