WANGANUI RACES.

The Wanganui Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting was held on Friday last, the weather on the occasion being miserable and wretched in the extreme. The heavy rain which was falling made the conrse extremely heavy and unfavourable to ''quick running, besides considerably lessening the attendance of the public.’ In onr issue of. Friday Inst we gave the results of.the Maiden Plate, and the Handicap Hurdle Race. Four more events were run during the day, the first of which was won by Mr, Harrison’s The Druid, Mr McElwain’s Blueskin and Grey Dougins being second and third respectively. For the big event of the meeting, the Wanganui Stakes Handicap of £ 150,, 2 miles, Mr S Powell’s Bayard, Mr A, J, Keith’s Hippona Mr Chilham’s Dan, Mr Slnndish’s Witiora, Mr Chnrton’s Lady Florence, Mr Newland’s Patience, and Mr Nugent’s Ngata started. A good race, resulted in Bayard obtaining first position, with Hippona second, and Don third. The Ladies’ Bracelet, for which six horsbs started, was won by Mrs D. Scott’s Ahna, Mrs Paul’s Lcoriossn secondj and Mrs Williamson’s Reliance" third'. The Consolation Stakes Handicap was won h;y Dan, Swecthome being second, and Hippona third. An extra handicap flat race was won by Mr Whishaw’s Claude.
