MR FREEMAN R. JACKSON'S FORT nightly STOCK report. Wednesday, Oct 17. Since my last report, considerably more animation is apparent in the stock trade, and although prices have not improved very much, still a fair amount of badness has been done with a good demand for bullocks and sheep of all classes. The heavy drain on our fat stock for export has caused a scarcity for this description at improved values/ consequently I think we may look with a degree of certainty for better prices for storrs. Sheep meet a good market at satisfactory rates. At St Hill-street yards to-day I sold a large number of horses. The animals offered were of a super! r class and elicited spirited bidding throughout the sale.

Cattle— At Kakaramea 301 head came forward. Bullocks, LI to Lt 5s 6d ; 2-year-old steers, L2 5s to L 3 5s ; weaners, 25s to 28s. At Waverley 115 head were sold : cows, L2 ; heifers, 35s ; cows and calves in low condition, LI 19s ; weaners, 25s to 28sAt St Hill-street about 60 head made up the sale : fat cows, L 6 5s to L 6 12s 6d ; cows, L2 7s ; weaners, 20s. SHEEP— At Kakaramea 279 were sold : ewes and lambs, 9s to 13s. At Waverley 2429 were penned and sold ; ewes and lambs, Hs 6d to 15s ; hoggets, 10s 6d to 11s. At Et Hill-street 1145 made up the sale : fat wethers, 15s 9d ; superior stores, 14s ; hoggets, Hs 9d ; ewes and wethers, lls 3d. Horses—A large entry of 50 head were stalled. Draughts, young and good, brought from Ll6 to L2O each. Unbroken hacks, L 5 to Lll ss. PlGS—Bacon Pigs, 40s; no porkers entered. ' Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co, sale was well attended on Wednesday. The yards were filled, and every pen but two were quitted either by auction or privately—showing that there is, at anyrate, a better disposition to do business, even if prices have not improved much. Steers, 12 to 18-month, brought LI 5s to L2 ; 2 to 2*-year olds, L 3 4s 6d ; 3-year-olds L 3 18s 6d ; 3 to 4-year-olds, L 4 10s; cows, with calves, L2 10 ; store cows, L2 4s. | Sheep—Hoggets 1,300 averaged 10s 2d a head.
