NEW RAILWAY FARES.
The details of the new scale of fares, rates and charges on Government rail-
•ways, which camo into force on Monday, the Bth inst, are published in a supplementary Gazette. The various tables contain the most ample information, passenger rates, for Instance, being given in full from Ito 377 miles. The minimum single fist class fare is 6d, for which sum a passenger may travel two miles. The second-class corresponding rate is 4d. In each of these cases the sum mentioned includes return for Saturday and Sunday, For nine miles the first-class fare is Is 9d, the second-class Is 2d, the return for Saturday and Sunday being respectively 2s 3d and is fid, while for 22 miles it is 4s 2d and 2s 9d single, and 5s fid and 3s 8d for return. The fare continues at the rate of 2s first-class for every sixteen miles, the nearest full penny being charged. In the second class the fare is exactly 2d per mile. Exceptions are made in the cases of one or two unimportant branch railways affecting out-of-the way places only. First-class season tickets will be issued at £3 for.two miles for twelve months, £1 15s for six months, £1 2s fid for three months, and 10s for one month for a distance of two miles, and second-class for the same distances at £2 sa, £1 2s fid, 15s, and 6s fid respectively. The rates for twenty miles are, first-class, £2O TOs’for twelve months, £l2 15s for six months, £7 5s for three months, abd £3 11s for one month ; while second-class they are £ls, £lO, £5 7s, and £2 14s respectively. ►Special rates are also given for the following : Families, apprentices and pupil teachers, newsboys, school tcachcis’ season, teacher's Saturday and official season tickets, and also for ordinary and school excursions, and special trains.
